MGC President Wayne with a prototype green cleaning machine.
Good morning James!
You've seen us take viewers behind the dry cleaning curtain on the CBS Early
Show. You've watched us share industry secrets on Inside Edition and you've
followed our regular appearances on Martha Stewart Television, where we
demonstrated stain removal techniques and how to care for a variety of textiles
and leathers. (If you've missed us, click on the embedded links for
a YouTube recap.)
Now, catch Meurice Garment Care on the Leonard
Lopate Show today at 1:00 pm. Previous editions of the Lopate
show, which airs over WNYC's 93.9 FM and 830 AM channels, feature thoughtful
conversations with everyone from actors and filmmakers to ex-presidents
and historians. You can also listen live by clicking the links
down the left-hand side of their web site.
Today, I've been invited as a guest expert to explain how dry cleaning works
and what's being done to make it more environmentally friendly. The industry has
come a long way from its early days when facilities handled so many combustible
chemicals that insurance companies often refused to cover them. Now, exciting
developments in an entirely chemical-free cleaning process called 'wet cleaning'
make it possible to keep your clothes looking like a million bucks using only
water.
At Meurice, we've worked for years to make our plant more eco-sustainable. Many
cleaners are quick to hang signs claiming they offer 'green cleaning' with
carbon-based solvents. Meanwhile, we've been a key pioneer in wet cleaning - the
only cleaning technique endorsed by GreenPeace, the Sierra Club, the Natural
Resources Defense Council and the EPA.
So, if you're curious about green cleaning, or just want to know what happens
to your clothes at the cleaners, tune in to the Leonard Lopate show today at
1:00 pm to hear for yourself.
Please feel free to send me your input directly -- as always, I'm happy to answer any questions that don't make it into the broadcast, and I'd love to hear your feedback.
Stay clean,
Wayne Edelman
President
